Mama Mzungu

Women and Children with Albinism in Uganda (WACWAU) is a registered NGO serving the needs of the most vulnerable in their community.  Across Africa, people with Albinism experience human rights violations and abuses.Their economic, political, social and cultural rights are often compromised in devastating ways. Societal ignorance about Albinism has contributed to exclusion, stigmatization and the denial of basic rights such as education and health. A broad misunderstanding has also endangered their lives. In everyday life, persons with Albinism, particularly women and children, are frequently treated less than human and are not considered capable of achieving anything.

Mama Mzungu, a social enterprise soap making initiative of WACWAU, is currently made up of 30 women from across Uganda who have come together with the aim of sustainable job creation, economic empowerment and working together to change the image of those affected by Albinism so they can achieve a level of respect and acceptance they deserve.
